Finca Las Mercedes located at one of the highest points in the mountains of Tarrazu where only the brightest red cherries are picked for sweetness and flavor. Mela Gamboa and her husband Luis Rojas are third-generation farmers at Finca Las Mercedes.
We discovered Mela and Luis' coffee estate while researching new undiscovered farms in Costa Rica. Together, we partnered to import their coffee for the first time to the United States and we are so proud to have them with us.

Back in the early 2000's, the Gamboa's pioneered one of the first micro-processing facilities for coffee, what we now refer to as a micromill. Normally, coffee is processed at the cooperative without the farmers supervision, whereas micromills are family and communally oriented processing stations that are located on or near the farm that have a more hands-on approach to processing coffee cherries. Since the Gamboa's have their own micromill, they are able to keep a close eye on the quality of the coffee throughout the entire process, from cherry to green.
