It all started with frequent trips back to our homeland in Costa Rica, which serves coffee with tremendous flavor while most people in the U.S. were satisfied with tasteless and bitter coffee. We found the same with coffee from Hawaii and Jamaica. We then realized the common thread between these great coffees; the best varieties are found in volcanic mountain elevations above 3,000 feet where the volcanic soil, cool climate and moisture from the clouds nourish the coffee plants.
While the national coffee chains have recently elevated gourmet coffee, there was still something missing and many people are still not aware that coffee can be an exotic experience. This became the reason behind starting our company in 2004 to focus on high-quality single-origin coffees known in the coffee industry as the third wave of coffee.
