Mexico Honey, Finca Muxbal - Named "Muxbal," translating to "place surrounded by clouds" in the Mayan Mam dialect, this exceptional coffee comes from a farm steeped in history and tradition. Managed by the Rodriguez – Luethje Family since 1959, Finca Muxbal has a storied past.
The journey to the farm was once a challenge, with the initial road constructed around 1965 to link the farm to Union Juarez. The most daunting task was surmounting the nearly vertical 100-meter rock wall emerging from the Muxbal river, leading to the farm's plateau. Over the years, immense effort went into reviving the 220-hectare plantation and upgrading both the wet and dry milling facilities.
Today, the farm's management is a testament to environmental stewardship, with a focus on manual weed control and thoughtful shade management. Muxbal's philosophy centers on the belief that optimal sun exposure is crucial for the best yield and quality of coffee beans. The smooth operation of the farm, from the meticulous handpicking of ripe cherries by up to 350 workers to the precise wet and dry processing, is a credit to their educated and skilled staff.
The farm is not just a coffee plantation but a community hub. It boasts residential facilities, sanitation amenities, a school, a childcare nursery, and a medical center, all designed to support the well-being of its workers and their families. Finca Muxbal proudly holds RFA certification, signifying its adherence to sustainable ecological and socio-economic practices.
Visitors to the plantation, overshadowed by the majestic nearby volcano, quickly notice the care and attention given to every aspect of the farm. This same dedication to their people is mirrored in the meticulous cultivation of their coffee plants.
